The Zentralbibliothek is the central library of Hamburg and located conveniently next to the central train station in the district of St. Georg. Spanning three floors, this modern library offers a variety of seating options that include lounge chairs in cozy corners between bookshelves and long tables on the walls with lights and plug sockets at every seat that are perfect for working, studying, and reading in deep focus mode.
Visitors can enjoy free high-speed WiFi access through Hamburg's MobyKlick service, which provides internet connectivity in multiple spots around the city. You can access it through a browser and will get four hours of free WiFi per session. The environment of the library is notably quiet, with certain areas being food-free. Drinks are allowed anywhere in the area. Bags and other luggage can be left in the lockers in the entrance area.
On the ground floor of the Zentralbibliothek is a cafe of the chain Cafe Schmidtchen where you can purchase coffee, typical Hamburg baked goods, and more. The library can become particularly busy during the university exam periods, so arriving early is advised if you have a preferred spot in mind.
