You can find Cafe Jelinek in Otto-Bauer-Gasse, in Mariahilf, the 6th district of Vienna. It is located right at the corner where Otto-Bauer-Gasse and Königseggasse intersect. In the summer, you can easily spot it from a distance thanks to the tables on the outside terrace.
Entering Cafe Jelinek feels like traveling back in time. With its old furniture, dark green sofas, and wallpaper darkened by soot from the fireplace, this place exudes strong vintage vibes. The chandeliers and signed pictures of celebrities from previous generations enhance its 20th-century look.
The cafe is known for serving its own coffee blend and typical Viennese-style breakfast plates, which usually consist of bread rolls, sliced cheese, and cold cuts. You can also choose from a huge selection of cakes or small lunch snacks like sandwiches or goulash.
Despite its historical charm, Cafe Jelinek offers good WiFi speed for working and has a few tables with plug sockets. We recommend precharging your laptop, though, in case those tables are not available immediately. There is no background music, but you will hear people chatting and some noise from the kitchen, so you might want to bring headphones just in case it gets busy. The WiFi password is conveniently written on the coffee machine.
We visited this cafe in the summer, but can only imagine how cozy it must be when the fire is lit in the oven during the winter. You can enjoy a delicious piece of cake with hot chocolate while working or reading here in the colder months. We recommend this cafe for light work and reading sessions, in-person meetings, or cozy focus sessions if you come outside of peak hours.
